Dinner Table Royalty

Some friends of mine have been posting photos of their kids on Facebook that are very interesting! One photo will be their kid on his/her first day of school & the photo next to it will be their kid on his/her last day of school. Knowing their kids, I could really SEE the growth! These sets of photos were all very bittersweet. So of course I did one for Sebastian, eager to see his awesome growth within 2 photos as well. Here ya go!

Sebastian's first day of Kindergarten.
Sebastian's last day of Kindergarten.

Scott worked from home half the day today, which is always nice.

Sebastian had a cloud hovering over him from dinner time through the rest of the evening. This cloud steered him repeatedly in the direction least likely to provide him the opportunity to provoke chaos. As soon as he finished eating I told him to follow me. I went to his room, told him it was time for pajamas & closed his door. When he was done I took him directly to brush his teeth. We got through that with some bumps as we had to leave the bathroom to retrieve toothpaste.. crossing paths with siblings doing mischievous things.. I saw Willow poke her head out from under my bed & had to tell Sebastian to just keep going. That was really hard for both of us to do! After brushing teeth.. which reminds me of a story.. The other day we were rushing to get out the door - Sebastian was still brushing his teeth - Scott runs to get him out of the bathroom and says, "Have you brushed them all yet???!" hahaaa!

After brushing teeth I took him directly to my bed where we worked on reading & writing (mailbox card activities using the letter "Q"). He read the words incredibly well & traced everything very nicely. Willow joined & we laid in bed watching old videos on my phone. I'll post the one below that we couldn't stop watching!

Scott did Judah's bedtime snack & massage while the rest of us laid in bed. Sebastian was great up until the time he had to get up & go to bed. Then he got wild. Scott got him to bed. Sebastian got up a few times after that, screaming - loudly. Scott asked him if he still wanted to see the movie they were planning on seeing tomorrow, and if so he needed to get to bed. The next time he got up I told him that my vote was "no" for him to see the movie tomorrow. Daddy's a push-over though. I'm sure his vote will be "eh.. alright". Us threatening stuff & not following through has definitely helped Sebastian ease into some negative behaviors. It's so hard to follow through with consequences! It's just a heart-breaking thing to do sometimes. We definitely don't hit the mark on that one every time.

Willow & Sebastian were declaring themselves as queen and king from opposite ends of the dinner table this evening. Willow stood on her chair, pounded her fist on the table and yelled, "I am Queen! I am Queen Scott!!" haha. She was calling herself a king until Sebastian corrected her. I asked Sebastian what Judah was and he replied, "Judah is the guard." The guard was seated, quietly eating his dinner. Coming from someone who used to be a security guard - I can say that Judah definitely played a realistic guard!

Earlier tonight Scott tripped over something in the hallway. Willow happened to be right next to him. She looked up at him and said, "Are you alright Scott?" hahaa.

Scott came home early today to help clean. I feel like we are just drowning in crap around here.. clutter, to-do list, appointments, schedules, daily living stuff, etc. There's got to be a better way. Talana is coming over tomorrow. When she starts that will help with some of this, Judah-wise. But unfortunately the mountain we are climbing will still be enormous.

Sebastian is CONSTANTLY picking on Willow, even when she is doing nothing! He's always coming up with ways to tell her off or tell her she's wrong or tell her what to do.. we are working on this. She is learning from his behavior, beginning to do the same back to him. That's so not okay! We have enough crazy to deal with!!

Trent knocked on our door today. I moved past Sebastian to open the door. We opened the door to discover that Trent's entire face was painted blue! He had a gigantic blue mustache, stretching nearly ear to ear, curled up at the end. I complimented him on the face art & he told me that he had it done yesterday at school (not today) ha. He smiled & asked if Sebastian could play. I kept a positive tone and said, "No, he isn't allowed to play with you anymore. Sorry." Then of course Trent's face turned sour & Sebastian started bargaining, basically with himself. "Maybe when I'm seven Trent! We can play when I'm seven!! Four more days Trent! Come back in four days!!" Four days, yeah right. I'm expecting him to knock on our door again in less than 12 hours.

Trent's sister was out & about with Trent today. Sebastian rode his bike to the mailbox & stopped to talk to them. He came home & immediately told me he had talked to them & asked me if that was okay, ha. Trent's sister understood that Sebastian couldn't play with Trent, so she had asked Sebastian if he could play with her. Sebastian looked to me for an answer to that one when he came home. I told Sebastian that Trent might be upset if he played with Sophia (the sister). Then Sebastian ran to the door. He said he was going to go ask Trent if he would be upset! ha! I pulled him back in and explained that he could tell her that he didn't know, probably not, but he didn't know for sure. I didn't know what the heck to tell him! Sebastian likes playing with the boys much better than playing with Sophia, but he'll take what he can get. Sophia is like a little angel wandering the neighborhood. There's no harm in playing with her. She is most likely a positive influence on Sebastian. It's really unfortunate that she's related to the blue-faced kid Sebastian can't play with!

Judah did well today. He didn't get nearly enough attention though. He told me "yuck" every time he pooped. He pooped twice. Both were large episodes of poop. Willow sat in the bathroom during one of the times I was helping Judah get cleaned up. My kids are never disgusted by this. To them it seems to be like breathing in the air they always breathe in. ??!?!

I cleaned out the truck more today. Willow climbed into the backseat and got on all fours. Then she pooped. Of course it was a nice sunny day, heating up the inside of the truck, which was again closed up not long after that. That will be a unique non-selling point.
